Testimonial

Testimonial for Tim Spiers Photography

We have been using Tim Spiers photography for several of our clients, and can recommend them for
both personal portraits and event photography and corporate photography.

Tim and his team are very professional yet approachable, enabling them to get the best images from
the event or person they are shooting. With enough experience to enable a seamless end to end
experience, I have not hesitation in recommending Tim Spiers Photography for any photographic
commission.

BNI Business Networking in Muswell Hill

BNI was introduced to me 18 months ago as a way of networking with local businesses.
The aim is to recommend each others services. We help each other to build business, we get to understand your business and use our networks to make introductions and referrals. Above all we operate on a principle that if you help someone then you are more likely to want to help you, we call it "Givers Gain".

This has worked so well for us that our senior photographer has joined the Old St group, Sterling.

We are having an open morning on the 5th of October. To find out more follow this link  http://www.ignitebni.com/news/visitors-day-5th-october.html

MPA Diploma in Photographic Practice

Although I studied photography over 25 years ago I have just passed my Diploma in Photographic Practice and I now have a professional qualification with the MPA as an Associate Master Photographer.
The MPA is the only association for 'professional only' photographers. They judge you on the images you create, camera craft, lighting and posing, your business practices, customer care, marketing, health and safety and legal requirements.
Any one booking a Master Photographer can be assured they are booking a photographer that works to the highest standards.
With many press reports of  bad wedding photographers brides today are becoming more aware that rather than looking for the cheapest photographer they need to be looking for high quality, full time, qualified professionals.

Award of Excellence for Weddings and Portraits

Last week I received two Regional Awards of Excellence in the Wedding category and a second in the Portrait category to go with 3 merits for Cherubs Baby Photography, the 3 images are in the Cherubs final where one of my clients could win £10,000.
The wedding image was taken last October at Holbrook House in Somerset. The portrait image was a pre-wedding engagement shoot last summer.

AMPA Qualification

I presented my panel of 20 images at Focus in March at the NEC for judging by the expert competition judges from the Master Photographers Association for my Licentiateship qualification only to be told that they weren't Licentiateship standard, they were better and upgraded me to the Associate level. I am the second person only to have done this.

I then had to submit my diploma workbook which I did last week and have now officially received my qualification. This is great for me because I can enter their National Competitions. Customers also know they are booking a photographer that not only works to a high standard producing quality products and has the right business structure, customer care, insurance, and legal documentation you would expect from a professional business team.

Testimonial by Dorothy Nesbit Leadership Coach - Tim's Story

Picture this:  on the way to a career that thrills

Hurrah!  Finally, I have got around to having professional photos done for all the places my image appears nowadays - my website, blog, LinkedIn, Twitter - the list seems endless!  I shall be taking time to change my photos in the days and weeks to come, beginning on my blog (http://dorothynesbit.blogspot.com/).

I was fascinated by the story Tim Spiers told me about his career history.  Tim was my photographer, thanks to a tip from my friend and colleague in the profession, Anne Smith, who recommended him and with whom I shared a day at Tim's studio in North London.  From a very young age of just 9 years old Tim started cutting people's hair.  This was something he put aside when he embarked on a course at Eastbourne College of Art and Design in Visual Communications, specialising in photography, where his aim was to prepare himself for a life of fashion shoots.

Not everyone supported Tim's aspirations - as is often the way - so, influenced by the doubts of others, he left his course early.  His family arranged an interview for him, telling him about a guy called Vidal Sassoon.  Tim quickly came to London to work with Sanrizz in Knightsbridge, where he became an expert with hair and learnt to do people's hair for photo shoots and pop videos.  He then developed a long freelance career in styling for fashion magazines and learning to also be a make-up artist. Later he moved into salon management.

Along the way Tim studied NLP. As part of his Master Practitioners course in NLP Tim used his interest in the work of make-up artists as a modelling project which perfected his skills. At the same time, his NLP studies helped Tim to clarify his values and revisit some old beliefs, leading to a major shift in his sense of his own capability. This was, essentially, an experience that empowered him and allowed  him to have the belief in all his abilities.

When photography went digital, Tim re-discovered the camera by way of a gift of a Nikon DSLR. He did a photo shoot himself, the hair & make-up and photography and had one of those "aha!" moments:  "what if I put all these skills together to offer this as a complete service?"  He set up his own business which has been growing at a significant rate.  If you take a look at Tim's website you'll see how he caters for a wide variety of clients.  If you're looking for a good photographer, I can recommend Tim.  It wasn't just the hair and make-up:  my sense of ease grew over the course of our time together and I was thrilled to come away with a number of options for my signature photo.

I tell Tim's story (with his permission) for another reason:  it says so much about the journey towards a career that is fulfilling.  The seeds of such a career lie in the things we most love to do - acorns are at their best when they become oaks.  Along the way, we take steps away from as well as towards our most natural career path - often because we are influenced by fear and the doubts of others.  With hindsight, the path looks so clear and obvious and yet, along the way, it can be so messy.  Both the highs and the lows contribute to our ultimate success.  Moving towards our ultimate career takes courage and a willingness to take risks.

That's enough for now.  As I sign off I leave you with just two photos from my day with Tim.
